Oh No, Lizard!
Oh No, Lizard!

A pivotal moment in which a lizard fell out of a tree and onto my windshield. We were both having a bad day, but when he came out alive I felt like I would too.

It all started with a loud thump on my windshield. Glancing down, startled, I noticed a small face looking at me through the glass. "Lizard!" It was a little green anole, pretty common if you live in NC. Not common falling out of the air, though - best I could figure he fell off one of the trees lining the road. Several times he was buffeted back and forth by the wind, and a shift in position at a stoplight nearly proved fatal when I had to accelerate. "Hold on, lizard!" He shot to the left, over my windshield wiper, and out of sight. "No!" I thought I'd lost him. A few blocks later, a little head peered over the windshield wiper. "Lizard, you're okay!". We made it to the art building, and I parked and got out of the car. Picking him up, I carried him to the nearest traffic-free tree, which fingers crossed, he wouldn't fall out of.
