This was a lush, marshy clearing on Fort Belvoir, tucked along the bank of the Potomac River. It was surrounded by thickly wooded hills all around, and the few lone trees in the center had all died (too much water runoff, maybe?). Despite its proximity to D.C., there was a ton of wildlife here - particularly deer, red fox, and bald eagles. Bald eagles have a sweet, chirpy sound, but if you ever have one fly over you, that big shadow is intimidating!
