The woman who commissioned this painting loves tree branches, and wanted a painting that brought together all of her favorite branches from each season. A Southern girl, her favorite branches can all be found in her native Arkansas, or her current home, Virginia.
The branches featured are:
magnolia (summer), red maple (fall), apple branches (winter), white oak leaves and cherry blossoms (spring), river birch trunk (summer), and dogwood branches (fall).
